Highlights
The
Industrial Sector
2. In the third quarter 2007, the overall index of industrial production was
2.0% lower than the previous quarter and 3.2% higher than the corresponding
quarter of 2006. In the year to 3rd quarter 2007, i.e., 4th quarter 2006 to
3rd quarter 2007, real industrial output went up by 3.1% compared to the same
period a year ago. This is explained mainly by increases of 11.8% and 3.7% in
the real output of the EPZ and “Electricity, gas and water supply” respectively,
partly offset by decreases of 9.5% in “Sugar milling” and 3.6% in Non-EPZ”.
Mining
and quarrying
3. The real output of “Mining and quarrying” decreased by 5.3% compared to the
previous quarter, and by 21.7% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2006.
In the year to 3rd quarter 2007, real output went down by 8.2%.
Manufacturing
4. Manufacturing output in the 3rd quarter 2007 decreased by 0.5% compared to
the previous quarter, but increased by 3.2% when compared to the same quarter
a year ago. In the year to 3rd quarter 2007, it increased by 3.0%. This is explained
by increases of 11.8% in EPZ, partly offset by the negative performances of
Non-EPZ (-3.6%) and “Sugar milling” (-9.5%).
5. Within “Manufacturing”, the real output of the EPZ decreased by 5.5% in the
3rd quarter of 2007 compared to the previous quarter, but increased by 12.2%
when compared to the same quarter, a year ago. In the year to 3rd quarter 2007,
it is estimated to have gone up by 11.8%
6. Large Non-EPZ establishments increased of 1.7% in the 3rd quarter 2007 compared
to the previous quarter and decreased by 3.6% compared to the same quarter,
a year ago. For the year to 3rd quarter 2007, the index decreased by 3.6%.
Electricity,
gas and water supply
7. In the 3rd quarter 2007, real output of “Electricity, gas and water supply”
decreased by 11.2% compared to the previous quarter, but increased by 4.0% when
compared to the same quarter, a year ago. In the year to 3rd quarter 2007, it
is estimated to have moved up by 3.7%
