2nd Quarter 2010
Highlights

1. The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which stood at 118.8 in March 2010, registered a net increase of 1.1 points (or 0.9%) to reach 119.9 in June 2010.


2. The main reasons for the net increase in the CPI from March to June 2010 were:

- higher prices of some food items such as dairy products and pulses;
- higher prices of motor vehicles;
- higher prices of gasolene and diesel; and
- lower prices of rice, fish and vegetables.


3. The headline inflation rate for calendar year 2009 (as measured by the percentage change in the average CPI for 2009 relative to 2008) was 2.5% while that for financial year 2009/10 was 1.7%.
