1. Monthly index
Overall index
The Producer Price Index–Agriculture, which was 108.5 in September 2011, went down by 0.9% to reach 107.5 in December 2011. This drop was due to the combined effects of a decrease of 2.0% in October followed by increases of 0.5% and 0.7% in November and December respectively.
Sugar cane
The index for “Sugar cane” for the period July 2011 to December 2011 was 86.5 based on the provisional price of sugar for the 2011 crop. This represents an increase of 16.7% over the 2010 crop. It is assumed that the same price prevails during the whole of the crop year.
Other crop products

In October 2011, the index for “Other crop products” increased
by 7.7% mainly due to 13.3% increases in the prices of fresh vegetables.
- In November 2011, the index dropped by 2.4% largely as a result of decreases
in the prices of fresh vegetables (-2.1%) and fruits (-10.2%).
- In December 2011, the index went up by 2.1% mainly as a consequence of higher
prices of fruits (+13.2%) and fresh vegetables (+1.4%).
Animals and animal products

In October 2011, the index for “Animals and animal products” went
down by 10.0%. This was mainly due to decreases in the prices of eggs (-24.4%)
and poultry (-5.7%).
- In November 2011, the index increased by 3.0%. This was due to increases
in the prices of poultry (+2.8%) and eggs (+4.6%).
- In December 2011, the index rose by 0.8% mainly as a consequence of increases
in the prices of poultry (+1.0%) and eggs (+0.2%).
2. Quarterly index
During the fourth quarter of 2011, PPI-A decreased by 1.8% compared to the previous quarter. This was due to lower prices of animals and animal products (-8.0%) and root crops (-0.4%), partly offset by higher prices of fresh vegetables (+8.4%) and fruits (+3.2%).
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2010, the index increased by 10.6 %.
3. Yearly index
In 2011, producer prices of agricultural products were on average 4.7% higher compared to 2010.
