Rodrigues Twice yearly the Ombudsman proceeds to the Island of Rodrigues (which is part of Mauritian territory with a population of about 35000) for the investigation of cases of alleged maladministration. The Ombudsman receives complainants, listens to their grievances, receives letters of complaints and opens new files on the spot for investigation. Sometimes site visits are also effected. Cases already under investigation are followed up with the Rodrigues Administration. In certain cases solutions to problems are found there and then. Surprise visits are also made at the Prison of Pointe La Gueule. The Ombudsman interviews prisoners who choose to meet him and complaints are recorded from them and inquired into. |
