Acting as Arbitrator between parties having to resolve a dispute.
Settling Industrial dispute after hearing parties, more especially representatives from the Employer and Union representatives. Under the Industrial Relations Act, an industrial dispute means a dispute between an employer or a Trade Union of Employers or an Employee or a Trade Union of Employees, which relates to a contract of Employment.
Enforcement of Union recognition is where a Union seeks recognition after it has been recognized by the Industrial Relations Commission. The Union may come to the Tribunal to seek enforcement of that order from the IRC.
When any party or a a Trade Union has to declare a dispute, it applies to the Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations for referral to the PAT. Whenever the Minister turns down their application, they may appeal to the PAT against the decision of the Minister.
Awards are delivered after hearing parties in relation to their disputes. It is similar to a Court of Justice delivering judgment after hearing parties.
