| Legislation | The main legislation which provides for the functioning of civil status offices is the Civil Status (Amendment) Act, 1981, which came into force on the 1 January 1982 and the Code Civil Mauritian which lays down the conditions which have to be satisfied before a person under 18 years, can contract marriage. With the introduction of computerized operations, it is compulsory to produce the National Identity Card for every civil status transaction.
