The Construction Price Index, which stood at 106.8 at the end of March 2012, increased by 1.7% or 1.8 points during the second quarter of 2012 to reach 108.6 in June 2012.
On a monthly basis, the index stood at 108.6 in April, May and June 2012 with an increase of 1.7% in April, a slight decrease of 0.1% in May and an insignificant increase in June.
The 1.7% increase in April was mostly due to higher prices of cement (13.2%) and blocks (3.3%). In May 2012, the 0.1% drop was the result of lower prices of steel bars (0.9%) partly offset by an increase of 0.3% in the prices of cement. In June 2012, the index remained almost at the same level following slight increases in the prices of electrical installation (0.6%) and ceramic tiles (1.7%).
As a consequence of the above changes the “Materials”, sub-index increased by 2.6% or 2.7 points in April 2012, decreased by 0.1% or 0.1 point in May 2012 and increased by 0.1% or 0.1 point in June 2012. The “Hire of Plant” sub index increased by 1.1% from 101.6 in March 2012 to 102.7 in April 2012 and remained unchanged up to June 2012.
During the first quarter of 2012 no changes was registered in the “Labour” and “Transport” sub-indices.
