| Major Projects 1. Transfer of potable water from La Nicoliere System to Port Louis System This project deals with the transfer of up to 30000m3 of potable water daily from La Nicoliere System to Port Louis System in order to cater for the shortfall in the supply from Pailles Treatment Plant in the dry period. The works under the Contract consists mainly of the laying of about 9 km of 600/500mm diameter trunk mains from Calebasses Reservoir to Priest Peak Reservoir with branch pipes leading to Le Hochet and La Cure Reservoirs. The trunk and distribution mains along La Paix Street, Port Louis (C2005/01A) will also be upgraded with 300mm dia and 160mm dia HDPE pipeline respectively. Consequently, there would be marked improvement in the water supply within the zones of Calebasses, Le Hochet, Priest peak and La Cure Reservoirs and along La Paix Street and neighbourhood upon commissioning of the works. Project Status: The works have been temporarily commissioned in October 2006 in view of the drought season and lack of water resources in Port Louis. About 15 000 m3/day have been transferred to Port Louis from the North. The outstanding works on the pipeline are due to start in April 2007. View Drawing 2. Trunk Main From La Brasserie Reservoir to 16ème Mile The 16ème Mile Reservoir supplies potable water mainly to 16ème Mile Village, Coriolis Road and Midlands, Solesse and Upper Nouvelle France regions. The 16ème Mile Reservoir is fed from La Brasserie Reservoir via a Trunk/Service Main. This trunk/service main also supplies water directly to inhabitants of upper 16ème Mile. The present16ème Mile – La Brasserie Trunk/Service Main consists of the following: (i) 2470 m of 250 mm Asbestos Cement pipe from La Brasserie Reservoir to Ferney Spinning Mills (ii) 1750 m of 300 mm DI pipe from Ferney Spinning Mills to 16ème Mile Reservoir The existing 250mm A.C pipe from La Brasserie Reservoir to Ferney Spinning Mills is in a very bad state, and leaks heavily. Due to the frequent repairs carried out, the maintenance cost is very high. The old and leaking 250mm A.C pipe thus considerably limits the volume of water reaching 16eme Mile reservoir from La Brasserie Reservoir. The 16eme Mile Reservoir consequently has to be supplemented by pumping from Nouvelle France Reservoir. In order to solve the aforementioned problems, it is proposed to replace the existing 250mm AC pipe by a 300mm DI pipe and connect this new pipe to the existing 300mm DI pipe from Ferney Spinning Mills to 16ème Mile Reservoir. The length of pipe to be laid is 2470m. Project cost: (materials + civil works) : Rs 10 Million (excl. VAT) Civil works: Award date: January 2007 Scheduled completion: Mid September 2007 View Drawing 3. Design & Construction of Meldrum Service Reservoir of 2500m3 capacity & Pipelaying Works under the Meldrum Reservoir Project Regions in Barkly and Coramandel are presently being supplied with potable water mainly from the Swimming Pool Borehole BH501 and the Herchenroder Borehole BH664 of capacities 1500 cu.m/day and 4000 cu.m/day respectively. Ground water is pumped directly into the existing service mains, thus subjecting the pipelines to excessive pressures. The existing system is also devoid of storage capacity and hence undue interruption in the water supply is caused in case of breakdown of any of the pumps. Furthermore, peak hour demands cannot be met satisfactorily. In order to solve the aforementioned problems, it is proposed to carry out the following works:- 1.Construction of a new water storage tank of 2500 cu.m capacity at Meldrum Street, Beau Bassin. 2.Construction of two new pumping mains of diameters 250mm and 300mm from the boreholes to the new reservoir. 3.Construction of service mains of diameters 250mm and 300mm from reservoir to the existing distribution systems. Project Cost: (Materials + Civil Works) : Rs 50 Million (excl. VAT) Status: Tender Preparation Stage Scheduled Start: August 2007 Scheduled Completion: August 2008 View Drawing 4. Integrated Infrastructural Development Project at Vallée Pitot – Civil Works The Central Water Authority is extending the existing Vallée Pitot water network to include the legalised informal settlements in the upper Vallée Pitot area. A new service reservoir, (New Monneron Reservoir) , will thus be constructed together with the supply reticulation to service the upper Vallée Pitot area. The project is not meant to supply houses situated outside the limit of permissible development set by the Government. The Project consists of the following components: -
Installation of a pump of capacity 90m3/hr at existing Lower Monneron Reservoir. -
200mm diameter ductile iron rising main from Lower Monneron Reservoir to the new proposed reservoir (0.8km). -
110mm & 160mm diameter HDPE pipes for distribution network in the upper Vallée Pitot area (about 5km of Distribution mains and distribution laterals). -
Construction of a new Reservoir of capacity 1000m³ Project cost: (materials + civil works) : Rs 53 Million (excl. VAT) Civil works: Award date: June 2006 Scheduled completion: July 2007 View Drawing |
