PRIME MINISTER’S RELIEF AND SUPPORT FUND 

        The Prime Minister’s Relief and Support Fund is instituted under Section 24 of the Finance and Audit Act and is administered by a Board. The Board is composed exclusively of ex-officio members and operates under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to Cabinet or his representative as follows:-

(i) Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office (Chairperson);
(ii) The Accountant General or his representative;
(iii) The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity & S.C.W. & R.I. or his representative;
(iv) The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations & Employment or his representative;
(v) The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health & Quality of Life or his representative;
(vi) The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport & Shipping;
(vii) The Accounting Officer; and
(viii) A Secretary.

The objective of the Fund is to provide:-

(a) Assistance to victims of accidents, injuries or severe hardship; and
(b) Financial support to persons and organizations engaged in activities for a good cause in the public interest.

Eligibility Criteria (Individual):-

(a) Victims or their dependants, as the case may be, to be considered as hardship cases on the basis of a report by the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Senior Citizens Welfare & Reform Institutions;

(b) The total family income should be less than Rs 8,500 monthly;

(c) The age limit for dependant children is 18 years; and

(d) Victims or dependants of victims eligible for any form of compensation under the Workman’s Compensation Act or National Pension Fund or other statutory benefits or schemes do not, in principle, qualify for assistance under the scheme. Notwithstanding this, victims or dependants of victims may be granted relief if the Board is of the opinion that the benefits obtained under any other legislation or from other funds/insurance schemes are not sufficient.

(e) Requests with regard to finance losses in the business sector will not be considered; and

(f) Requests with regard to cases of Sale by Levy will not be considered.

Eligibility Criteria (Organisations engaged in activities for a good cause in the Public interest):-

(1) Requests from NGO's and any other registered organizations will be considered on a case to case basis.

(2) Amount to be allocated will be up to a maximum of Rs 50,000.

(3) Requests from religious bodies will not be considered. 

 

Allocation of Funds

        The maximum relief granted under the Fund is Rs 30,000 and is a one off grant.

 

Mode of Application

        Persons meeting the above eligibility criteria may apply by filling the Survey Form as at annex and submit same, along with documents mentioned therein to the Secretary, Prime Minister’s Relief and Support Fund, Prime Minister’s Office, 4th Floor, New Government Centre, Port Louis.
