VOTING BY PROXY

Electoral Regulations entitle certain categories of persons to vote by proxy, details of which are given below:

Type of Election Persons entitled to vote by Proxy
National Assembly Election

(a) Police and election officers engaged in the performance of election duties at the date of any election;

(b)(i) those serving as Ambassador, High Commissioner or other principal representative of Mauritius abroad; or

(ii) a public officer performing duties on behalf of the Government of Mauritius under a person specified in sub-paragraph (i); or

(iii) a member of the family of a person specified in sub-paragraph (i) or (ii) and forms part of his household abroad;

(c) any candidate duly nominated for election;

(d) any public officer who is an elector in Rodrigues and who is serving in the Island of Mauritius; and

(e) any public officer who is an elector in any constituency in the Island of Mauritius and who is serving in Rodrigues.

Municipal Council Election

Police and election officers engaged in the performance of election duties at the date of any election.
Rodrigues Regional Assembly Election

(a) Police and election officers engaged in the performance of election duties at the date of any election; and
(b) any public officer who is an elector in Rodrigues and who is serving in the Island of Mauritius.

These persons can only do so after fulfilling the prescribed procedure, i.e. submitting their applications to vote by proxy and thereafter being issued with proxy papers after the relevant documents have been processed at our office.
