     ProceduresTo Recruit Labour in Bulk

(i) Companies wishing to recruit labour in bulk have to put up a request to that effect to the Employment Division.

(ii) An inspection is carried out to determine the justification to resort to foreign labour.

(iii) The request and the inspection are referred to the Work Permit Committee, where representatives of various Ministries are members. The Committee will scrutinise the request and will make a recommendation which is submitted for approval.

(iv) Upon approval, the Company is granted a letter of intent, authorising it to import a certain number of expatriate workers subject to it complying with various conditions pertaining, inter alia, to salary and decent accommodation.

(v) The Company then undertakes its recruitment exercise and select potential workers.

(vi) Individual applications are then sent to the Employment Division for consideration.

(vii) These applications are referred to the Work Permit Committee, which upon obtention of the necessary fire safety and sanitary clearances in respect of accommodation, recommends same favourably.

(viii) Upon receipt of the residence clearance from the Prime Minister's Office, approval is sought at the level of the Employment Division for the grant of work permit.

(ix) The work permit is issued, upon payment of the prescribed fees and the statutory deposit.
