How to apply for a work permit

(i) Individual applications for work permit should be made on the prescribed form, available at the Employment Division. Section 1 has to be filled and signed by the applicant and Section 2 by the employer. Each application should be submitted together with a processing fee of Rs 500 and relevant documents indicated therein.

(ii) Concurrently, the applicant should apply for a residence permit at the Immigration and Passport Officer, Port Louis.


Issue of Work Permit

Upon approval of application, claim for payment of work permit fees and statutory deposit will be sent to the employer.


Work permit is granted once:

(i) the prescribed fees are paid and
(ii) the prescribed statutory deposit is furnished either in cash or as a bank guarantee. The purpose of the deposit is for the repatriation of workers on termination of contract of employment or for any cause whatsoever if the employer fails to provide a return air ticket to the expatriates.
