How to apply for a work permit

(i) Individual applications for work permit should be made on the prescribed form, available at the Employment Division, 10th floor, Sterling House. Section 1 has to be filled and signed by the applicant and Section 2 by the employer. Each application should be submitted together with a processing fee of Rs 500 and relevant documents indicated therein.

(ii) The applicant should concurrently, apply for a residence permit at the counter of the Passport and Immigration office, 10th floor, Sterling House.


Issue of Work Permit

Upon approval of the application, a claim for the payment of work permit fees and submission of statutory deposit will be sent to the employer.


Work permit is granted once:

(i) the prescribed fees are paid and
(ii) the prescribed statutory deposit is furnished either in cash or as a bank guarantee. (The purpose of the deposit is for the repatriation of workers on termination of contract of employment or for any cause whatsoever if the employer fails to provide a return air ticket to the expatriates.)
