Fisheries - Fisheries Protection Service

GOAL

To keep a surveillance for the Protection and Conservation of the Marine Environment as well as to attend to the welfare of Fishermen.

KEY PRIORITIES

• To eradicate the use of illegal fishing implement.
• To maintain close monitoring of fishing activities of fishermen.
• To give satisfaction to our customers without causing delay.
• To give motivation to officers of the Fisheries Protection Service.

OBJECTIVES

• To protect and preserve our marine ecosystem.
• To combat illegal fishing.
• To ensure that there is no over-exploitation of our Marine Resources.
• To ensure that sufficient fish and fish products are available for the population.

SERVICES PROVIDED

• Control and surveillance of lagoon/off lagoon. To combat illegal fishing.
• Registration of fishermen/boats.
• Processing applications concerning duty concessions for the purchase of outboard motors by registered fishermen/ for the renewal of large nets, gill nets for the payment of bad weather allowance/bait gear licence/basket trap licence.
• Search and rescue at sea.
