Talented young graduates are likely to be considered for a fixed-term (up to one year) employment contract as LEGAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT [LRC 8].
Qualifications:
1. Holder of an honours degree in Law, of at least second class, from a recognised institution or other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Commission.
2. Ability to conduct legal research.
3. Good understanding of Mauritian Law.
4. Knowledge of, and interest in, the areas of law relevant to the post applied for.
5. A lucid and well-organized writing style with an excellent command of written and spoken English and French.
6. An understanding of the broader context of law reform, including an ability to analyse policy issues, to identify the diverse groups affected by reforms and to appreciate their concerns.
7. Ability both to work successfully without close supervision and to co-operate with others in a team environment, sometimes under considerable pressure.
Duties:
1. Undertake legal research work, including finding materials, interpreting them and summarising them accurately and clearly.
2. To consider legal problems constructively and formulate creative solutions.
3. To liaise, as and when required, with professional and other organisations.
4. To work closely with other research staff and consultants engaged by the Commission to assist with certain projects.
5. To assist in the drafting of Issue or Research Papers, Consultation or Discussion Papers, and Reports.
6. To analyze responses to proposals from Commission.
7. To assist in the formulation of policy.
8. To assist in the drafting of legislation.
9. To assist in the preparation of handbooks on aspects of Mauritian law under review.
10. To help for the smooth running of seminars and Conferences that may be organized by the Commission.
11. To perform such cognate duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Internships:- Law students may be considered for internship for a period not exceeding three months.
