1. What are the procedures for NHDC Grant?

Call at a Citizens Advice Bureau nearer the site of construction before making the plan of the building, for advice. Collect an application form. When building permit has been approved return form to the CAB, with the following documents:

Photocopies of:

(a) Identity Card(s) for applicant and spouse (for married couple);

(b) Title Deed of Land;

(c) Birth Certificate(s)

(d) Marriage Certificate (if applicable);

(e) Site plan of house;

(f) Building Permit;

(g) Development Permit (if applicable);

(h) Certified Plan for Building;

(i) Salary slip(s).

(j) Affidavit certifying salary earned for self-employed.

2. What are the procedures for naming of a (new) road?

(a) Make an application at the Citizens Advice Bureaux /District Council/ Municipal Council of your locality;

(b) Fill in the appropriate form;

(c) Suggest a name for the new road and make the inhabitants sign a petition supporting that request.

(d) Leave petition at the appropriate Authority.

3. What is the procedure for tarring a road?

(a) Make an application at the CAB of your locality.

(b) The request is referred to the Regional Development Officer of the area concerned for processing.

4. What are the procedures for street lighting?

(a) The District Council/Municipal council of your locality is the responsible authority.

(b) You may call at your local Citizens Advice Bureau, which will transmit your demand.

5. What are the procedures for obtaining electricity for domestic purposes?

(a) Make an application at the Customer Service centre of CEB of your locality

(b) Make a deposit of Rs200 [tariff110 (0-300w)], Rs600 [tariff120 (300-5000w)], Rs1200 [tariff140 (>5000w)].

(c) Bring your I.D Card

(d) If already registered, bring along a copy of electricity bill.

(e) A list of items will be offered for purchase(f) A counter box is provided to be affixed in the house.

(g) Once everything is ready inform CEB for establishment of electricity.

6. What are the procedures for a domestic water supply?

(a) Call at the Customer Service Centre of your area

(b) Bring along the Title Deed (original and a copy), the location plan (3 copies)

(c) Bring your I.D card.

(d) A site visit by inspector will be conducted.

(e) A minimum fee of Rs 1500 will be charged for the supply up to the counter.

(f) Piping from counter to the house is the responsibility of the client

7. What are the procedures for construction of drains/handrails?

(a) Make a formal application at the CAB of your locality.

(b) The demand is referred to the Regional Development Officer for action.

8. What are the procedures for obtaining Financial Assistance to start an enterprise?

(a) Make a formal application at the Development Bank of Mauritius.

(b) Remember to take your I.D Card.

(c) If you already have a project write up, submit same to the bank.

(d) For further information on financing agencies like Grameen, SMIDO, etc, contact the local CAB..

9. What are the procedures for obtaining help guidance and advice against Domestic Violence?

(a) Call the Ministry of Women’s Rights Child Development and Family Welfare/the regional Women Centres.

(b) Psychologists, Social Worker and therapist will assist/advise you

(c) Legal Advice is also provided.

(d) For any further information, please call at your local CAB.


10. For the procedures to obtain any information/ advice/guidance for the services provide by any other Ministries

(a) Please call at the CAB nearest to your residence.

(b) The CAB Organiser will note your complaint/request.

(c) Follow up action will be made.

(d) Appropriate and individual service will be offered in strict confidentiality.
