        1.          How do I renew my passport or obtain a new passport or travel document in case of loss?

 

You may apply for a new passport or a travel document by contacting the nearest Mauritius Embassy/High Commission or Consulate (http://foreign.gov.mu).

         2.         What are the Passport fees?

 Passport fees are as follows:

The documents to be produced are listed in the application form which can be downloaded from the website mentioned above or obtained from the nearest   

Mauritius High Commission/Embassy or Consulate. 


 

          3.          Do I need a visa to travel to Mauritius?

 Please consult the website of the Passport and Immigration Office (http://passport.gov.mu) for   relevant information.

           4.      What  are visa requirements?

 

(i)     Tourist visa

 

i)        Filled in application form (form available on: (http://passport.gov.mu)

ii)       Original passport with at least six month validity from the last date of the proposed visit

iii)       Proof of accommodation/confirmed booking/sponsorship letter with detailed particulars

iv)      Valid return ticket

v)       Valid re-entry visa for country of residence

vi)       Proof of adequate funds to meet cost of stay

 

(ii)      Business visa

ii)        Contact person, name of company and business letter

iii)       Original passport with six month validity

          5.      Where to apply for a visa?

An alien or a foreigner not exempted from visa provisions wishing to enter Mauritius should apply for a visa at the nearest Mauritius Mission abroad or at a Government of Mauritius Representative/Honorary Consulate, or submit application to the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis, Mauritius if no Missions are accredited to that country.

 

           6.      Can I migrate to Mauritius?

         

It is not the policy of the Mauritius Government to encourage immigration to 

Mauritius. The Prime Minister's Office may be contacted on the matter.

           7.       How do foreigners get married in Mauritius?
 

The celebration of the marriage of non-citizens is governed by Article 24A of 

the Civil Status Act (1981).    The following website provides necessary details:

         8.     What do I do when a Mauritian dies abroad and I want to repatriate  the remains  to Mauritius?


The assistance of a funeral home in the country where the death occurred could be sought to obtain the following supporting documents:

 

i)        Death Certificate

ii)       Passport of Deceased

iii)      Non-epidemic/Infections Certificate

iv)      Burial order from the country in which the death has occurred

v)      Flight details

vi)      Embalming certificate

vii)     Clearance from Health Department of the country in which the death has occurred.

 

The family of the deceased is required to give its consent to the repatriation and also meet all requirements vis-à-vis the funeral home for the repatriation expenses.

 

The above documents should then be forwarded to the nearest Mauritius High Commission, Embassy or Consulate in order to obtain the necessary clearance from the Ministry of Health of Mauritius. 


In countries where there are no diplomatic/consular representations the documents may be forwarded by the funeral home directly to the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life whose particulars are :

         9.      Can I take my pets with me when travelling to Mauritius?

 

The importation of live animals, including pets, and animal by- products, is  subject to the issue of an import permit by the division of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Food Technology and Natural Resources.

        10.       Can I bring plants with me when travelling to Mauritius?

        

It is strictly forbidden to import plants, plant parts, plant products  (fruits and vegetables) and planting materials (seeds, bulbs, corns, rhizomes, etc) into the territory of Mauritius without a Plant Import Permit from the Plant Pathology Division of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security.

        12.      Authentication of Driving Licence

 

Request for authentication of a Mauritian Driving Licence is made to the nearest High Commission/Embassy/Consulate which consequently makes necessary arrangements with the Commissioner of Police in Mauritius.
