| The National Transport Corporation (NTC) has been set up in the early 1980s to operate public transport services in the island. From modest beginning, after taking over the assets of ex-Vacoas Transport Co. Ltd, NTC has grown into a major transport institution. |

CREATION
The National Transport Corporation, a parastatal body, was created by Act of Parliament on 24 April 1979. It started operations on 12 March 1980.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Corporation shall be to establish and operate public transport services and any other ancillary service in any part of Mauritius.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The National Transport Corporation has during these past twenty-four years grown into the single largest Bus Fleet Operator of the island.

NEW BUSES
The Corporation recently purchased 80 Fully Built Buses with Automatic Transmission and 15 Fully Built Air Conditioned Buses from Ashok Leyland Ltd.
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
CONSTRUCTION:

The construction of new bus depot at Haute Rive, Rivière du Rempart been completed.

It is proposed to construct a new depot at Rivière des Galets. |

Project for construction of a new Corporate Headquarters in the Cyber city region of Ebène is under way. |
NEW ELECTRONIC TIM:
Purchase of new Electronic Ticketing Machines.
SMART CARD:
Introduction of Smart Card on a trial basis.
TRAINING:

Computer Course for NTC employees and relatives at the Computer Training Centre by staff of NCB.

Trainee Graduate Scheme - In line with Government Policy, 17 Graduates being enlisted at NTC for one year training |
ADVERTISING ON BUSES:
New advertising concept on NTC buses introduced.
NEW BUSES:
Tender for purchase of 100 Fully Built Buses is under process.
STORES:
Computerisation of Stores is under process to enable the corporation to manage its stock and control its Central Stores and five depots' stores situated throughout the island.
