The Civil Engineering Section is headed by Mr A. Gopaul, Director (Civil Engineering) and is shouldered by a team of Engineers, Technical Officers, Draughtsmen, Laboratory Technicians and the Inspectorate cadre.

Repair & Rehabilitation Unit (RRU)                   Materials Testing Laboratory  


Main Functions of the Civil Engineering Section

The Civil Engineering Section of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport & Shipping is responsible for:

v

the structural design of  Government building and Civil Engineering projects;

v

the maintenance of Government buildings;

v

ensuring the structural soundness of Government buildings and Civil Engineering structures for the safety of the public and staff;

v

the assessment of structures in cases of distress, fire, accident or failure and the preparation of technical assessment reports;

v

the repairs and rehabilitation of Government buildings through the use of proper techniques and materials;

v

the carrying out of all necesary soil tests and investigations for safely designing foundations to building structures;

v

representing the Ministry in Arbitration and other Court cases on engineering matters;

v

the provision of an advisory service to other Government Bodies on building construction and civil engineering matters, legislation for building control, land development, preparation of standards of materials of construction;

v

the implementation of the cyclone scheme before and after cyclones; and 

v

assistance in the organisation of state visites, General, Municipal and Village Council Elections, National festivals and National Day Celebrations.
