You are here Architect Section The Architect Section is headed by Mr. H. Rambhojun, Director (Architecture), who is supported by a team of Architects, Technical Officers and Draughtsmen. The Architect Section acts as the team leader in a multi-disciplinary group comprising of Professional Engineers and Quantity Surveyors. Click here for the Organisation Chart of the Architect Section  Main Functions of the Architect Section The main functions of the Architect Section are the following: | v | Act as project leader in a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, and Traffic Engineers; | | v | Assist in the evaluation of tenders; | | v | Administer the building contract; | | v | Advise Government on all matters including policy relating to architecture and contract management; | | v | Make recommendations for the preparation and implementation of building codes and legislation; | | v | Prepare documents for appointment of Architectural Consultants and Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, administer the contracts and certify payment; | | v | Assist in litigation and arbitration proceedings; | | v | Prepare Architectural Competition documents and assist in evaluation as Jury Member; and | | v | Register Building Contractors. | Registration of Contractors The Director(Architecture) chairs the Committee for the registration of Contractors. Only Contractors who are registered with the Ministry are eligible to tender for Government projects. Foreign Contractors are allowed to tender only for Government projects financed by International Funding Agencies subject to the approval of the latter. The Construction Industry Development Board is presently working on a new legislation for the registration of Contractors. Pending the enforcement of the new legislation, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport & Shipping is responsible for the registration of Contractors through a technical committee chaired by the Director (Architecture) and comprising the Deputy Director (Architecture), the Director (Civil Engineering) and the Deputy Director (Quantity Surveying). Contractors are registered in different categories and some of them are also specialized in certain trades, a list of which is reproduced hereunder: - Building;

- Metal Works – Fencing and Tubular Works;

- Mechanical, Air-conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation;
- Electrical, Fire Alarm and Detection System;

- Plumbing, Gas Installation and Fire Fighting;
- Vertical Transportation, Lifts;
- Openings (Aluminium, Steel);
- Pipelaying;
- Laboratory Equipment and Fume Cupboard;
- Painting, Interior Decoration and Furnishing;
- Landscaping and Earth Works;
- Furniture/Joinery (Timber);
- Road Works;
- Bridges;
- Road Furniture;
- Road Markings;
- Road Reinstatement;
- Concrete;
- Construction of Playgrounds;
- Construction of Drains;
- Tarring;
- Minor Works;
- Masonry;
- Flooring/Tiling;
- Maintenance;

- Industrial Flooring;

- Supply and Installation of Standby Generators; and
- Cable.
Contractors are registered under a particular grade according to the ceiling of the contract value of the project for which they are entitled to tender.
