With the objective of e-powering people, the NCB undertakes various activities to bridge the digital divide and create an information-based society in Mauritius.
The Government is fully committed to develop the ICT sector as the fifth pillar of our economy and in this context it is important to have a high level of awareness and understanding of IT among the public. Successful implementation of electronic services at the level of the government (e.g. e-government) or in the private sector (e.g. electronic banking) depends on a widespread IT culture.
Furthermore there are limited IT facilities at school and community centres. Huge investment would be required to equip schools and community centres with sufficient computer equipment in short term. In order to provide access to IT facilities to develop this culture in a cost effective manner in the short term the NCB Cyber Caravan provides a solution to bring IT facilities to the community, school and workplace
