What is an incubator Centre ?
An incubator centre provides a support structure and an adequate framework for enterprise creation which brings together specialised resources aimed at assisting companies before their setting up and / or during their initial years of operation.
An incubator offers an ideal environment for start-ups and techno-preneurs to transform their ideas into viable business ventures. Entrepreneurs and small businesses receive proper backup and guidance to be able to concretely market their business concepts, operate effectively and keep up with the pace of change whilst remaining competitive. Failures encountered during the initial phase of operation of a venture are thus minimised and the ability to reach the entire potential for expansion is enhanced.
The NCB ICT Incubator Centre
In its 2001-2002 budget speech, and in line with the vision to develop the ICT sector as the fifth pillar of the economy, transform Mauritius into a Cyber Island and position the country as a regional ICT hub, Government mandated the NCB to set up an Incubator to promote entrepreneurship development in ICT, create employment and encourage technology transfer through the provision of appropriate logistical and infrastructural support.
The NCB ICT Incubator Centre came into operation in January 2003 and was officially launched by the Honourable Deelchand Jeeha, Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, on 21 April 2003 .
