 Breast and Cervical  Cancers

Breast and Cervical cancers are 2 main types of cancer affecting women in Mauritius. A study carried out by the Ministry in 1993 in collabration with the London School of Hygiene and Harvard University reveals that breast and cervical cancer contributed to 16% and 19% respectively of the total burden of disease due to cancer in women.

The same study revealed that women under 35 years of age accounted for less than 3% of total mortality due to cervical cancer, while in the age group 35-64, it is accouunted for about 40%.
