Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) permits

CITES is a conservation tool of major importance and provides a global basis for the conservation of species in trade, through the listing of species on Appendices to the Convention. Mauritius signed the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora 1973 that came into force on the 27th July 1975.

The National Parks & Conservation Service is the CITES Management Authority of the Republic of Mauritius. Permits are required for the export, re-export or import of animal/plants parts listed under CITES. A list of Plants and Animals under CITES has been annexed.

As per the Wildlife & National Park (1999), any request for export, re-export or import permit should be made in writting to the Director, National Parks & Conservation Service, Ministry of Agro-Industry & Fisheries.

The following details should be submitted

Name and address of importer and exporter
 Country of import
Scientific and common name of species
 Country of origin of species
 Number of species
 Purpose of transaction

A fix fee of Rs. 300 should be paid for each permit and the permits are issued within 5 working days for companies and 24 hours or less for individuals/public.
