Objectives

To act as liaison with Central Informatics Bureau and Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication on behalf of Mauritius Police Force in all matters pertaining to IT development in the service;
To prepare, in association with CIB, long term strategic IT plans for the Force and prioritize projects in accordance with Force requirements;
To assess users' needs, identify projects and have constant supervision on their implementation;
To supervise existing systems, their proper utilization and maintenance;
To advise on remedial steps to prevent leakage or accidental loss of data in the Force;
To coordinate in-house training for Police personnel at IT Training Centre and specialized training specifically for new projects;
To help identify members of the force with knowledge in IT and to train them in the field of electronic & computer crimes with assistance from services within or outside the service;
To create awareness of such crimes among members of the Force followed by preventive measures; and
To help in enforcing laws pertaining to ICT such as the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act 2003, the Information & Communication Technology Act 2001, the Copyright Act 1997 and the Electronic Transaction Act 2000.
