1. Candle Light Memorial 2011 at Central Prison Beau Bassin
Candle Light Memorial 2011 was celebrated on 16th May 2011 at 0900 hours at the Central Prison Beau Bassin, with the theme "La Vie cet ene tresor qui bizin protezer ek conserver".
Personnel of the Dynamic Security Support Unit of Lotus Rehabilitation Centre, a unit for the treatment of substance abusers in Beau Bassin Prison, together with detainess organized the ceremony to demonstrate their support for people living with HIV/AIDS through the lightning of candles, songs and prayers.
The Candle light Ceremony in Beau Bassin Prison is much more than just a memorial, as it provide opportunities for solidarity, breaking down barriers and giving hope to detainees at the same time creating awareness in HIV/AIDS knowledge.
Three detainees who are actually following a Rehabilitation Therapeutical Program at the Lotus Centre, shared their personal experience and difficulties encountered in their fight against HIV/AIDS. They also expressed the importance of living a drug-free life as well as the importance of ARV (Anti-Retro-Viraux) treatment.
Representatives of Religious Bodies, NGO's and Psychologist were also present.
2. Blood Donation
A Blood Donation Activity was organized on 17th March 2011 at the Central Prison Beau Bassin. 131 pints of blood was collected. Prison Officers, Civilian Staff, Staff of Brown Sequard Hospital (BSH) as well as members of the public participated in the said activity.
3. Prisons Staff Inter-Institution Football Tournament
The final of the Prison Staff Inter-Institution Football Tournament between Prison Security Squad "B" Football Team and Beau Bassin Prison Football Team was played on Thursday 17 March 2011 at 15:30 hours at the Beau Bassin Prison Football Ground.
The Prison Security Squad "B" won by 3 to 1 against Beau Bassin Prison Football Team.
