Composition of the Public Service Commission
Following the amendment to Section 88 of the Constitution by Act No. 5 of 1997, the Public Service Commission now consists of a Chairman, two Deputy Chairmen and four Commissioners. The Disciplined Forces Service Commission now consists of the Chairman of the Public Service Commission and four Commissioners. All of them are appointed by the President of the Republic after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. No person is qualified for appointment as Chairman, Deputy Chairman or Commissioner of the Commissions if he is a member of, or a candidate for election to the Legislative Assembly or any Local Authority, a Public Officer or a Local Government Officer.
