National Solidarity Fund

The National Solidarity Fund provides: 

    (i)  Financial assistance to citizens of Mauritius residing in Mauritius  who may 
          require surgical operations which can only be performed in private medical 
          institutions in Mauritius, (approved by the Ministry of Health); and

    (ii) Financial assistance directly to individuals who have undergone Severe Personal Hardship.

CASES  PRESENTLY COVERED UNDER SEVERE PERSONAL HARDSHIP 

a) Needy students:

      (i)   SC/HSC students (Not qualified for refund of exams fees according to Social Aid Act)
      (ii)  IVTB approved courses
      (iii)  University registration fees

b) Victims of Natural Calamities

c)
  Multiple births(e.g Twins, Triplets)

d) Repatriation of Mortal Remains

e) Destitutes

f)  Fire Victims

g) Assistive Devices provided are adapted push chair,walking frames, hearing aid, spectacles etc

h) Patients suffering from incurable diseases -   certified by Medical Practitioners   

DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED (Medical Cases)

  a)  Original Medical Certificate from Medical Practitioner specifying nature of medical 
      treatment the patient requires and non-availability in Government Hospitals.

 

DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED (hardship)

     
a) Needy students: 

         (i)Original Memo from University/School in connection with attendance
         (ii)Original receipts regarding expenses incurred relating to course
         (iii)Original receipts of exam fees paid (SC & HSC)
         (iv)Original Memo from IVTB, including costs of courses

      b) Fire victims and victims of Natural Calamities e.g: Cyclone, Flood, Thunder and Lightening

          (i)Memo from Government Fire Services and Mauritius Police Force

      c) Repatriation of Mortal Remains

           (i) Documentary Evidence
             (ii) Death Certificate
             (iii) Original Receipt from Air Mauritius

      d) Destitutes 

    
         (i)
Original Medical Certificate attesting breadwinner to be unfit to work.
              (ii) Memo from school i.f.o children

       e) Assistive Devices

          (i) Original Medical Certificate
          (ii)Original Quotation from a recognized institution

        f) Incurable Diseases

       
  (i)Original Medical Certificate from a Government Medical practitioner

COMPOSITION OF THE NATIONAL SOLIDARITY FUND BOARD

 The Board consists of:

a)   a Chairperson appointed by the Minister;

b)   the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Senior Citizen Welfare & Reform Institution or his representative

c)    the Secretary for Home Affairs, Prime Minister's Office or his representative

d)    the Financial Secretary or his representative;

e)    the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Quality of Life or his representative;

f)     a representative of the Mauritius Tax Payers' Association;

g)   a representative of the Mauritius Employers Federation;

h)   a representative  of employees' trade unions appointed by the Minister; and

i)    a representative of the Mauritius Council of Social Service.
