Medical
Tribunal
The
Medical Tribunal, which consists of a Chairman, appointed by the
Attorney-General, who is a legally qualified person and two
specialists. It hears appeal
from claimants who are not satisfied with the decision of the Medical
Board regarding their claim for the following:
(a)
Basic Invalidity Pension (aged between 15 and 59)
(b)
An Additional Basic Invalid's Pension (or Carer's Allowance
for Severe disablement)
(c)
Carer's Allowance for beneficiaries of Basic Retirement Pension
(aged 60 and over)
(d)
Disablement Pension (aged 15 and over) following injury at work
(Section 26 of NP Act)
The
appeal should be lodged within one month from the date the claim has
been disallowed by the National Pensions Officer.
When
convened before the Medical Tribunal, appellants are requested to
bring National Identity Card, medical certificates, prescriptions and
related documents to support their case.
If
the appeals are allowed, the appellants are informed accordingly and
payment of the benefit(s) is effected by the Benefits Branch or
Industrial Injury Branch, as applicable.
If
an appeal is rejected, the person can call at the Social Security
Office nearest to his residence with all relevant documents to make a
fresh claim for Basic Invalidity Pension, an Additional Basic
Invalid's Pension (or Carer's Allowance for Severe Disablement) or
an Increase in Basic Retirement Pension six months after his claim was
disallowed by the Medical Board.
In case the claimant cannot call at the local Social Security
Office personally, he may send his representative (proxy)
