Trochetia boutoniana /  Brownea grandiceps/ Climber /  Aquatic plants

Trochetia boutoniana

Trochetia boutoniana is an endemic shrub to Mauritius.The petals of the flower are bell-shaped and red in colour. It is also known as the National flower of Mauritius.

 

Brownea grandiceps

Brownea grandiceps which is a native from Tropical America is also known as the Rose de Venezuela.
It is a small tree which bears flowers hanging beneath the foliage.

 

Climber

Petrea volubis

Petrea volubis is native to Central America and is commonly known as the Sand piper vine.
It comes in two varieties wherby the flowers are white and purple.

 

Aquatic plants

Victoria amazonica

Victoria amazonica is native to the Amazon River. It is also known as the giant water lilly.
Its leaves are large and they float on the water surface. The flowers are white on the first day they are open and turn pink the second night.

   
   


Nelumbo nucifera

Nelumbo nucifera which is also known as the sacred lotus forms part of the Nelumbonaceae family.
It is an aquatic perennial  native to India.
The flowers are pink or white and can be seen on thick stems above the surface of water.

   

 

Nymphea sp

   
  

This beautiful water lily can be seen in different colors. The leaves are roundish and float on the water surface, some of the leaves are also submerged partially. The flowers float on the water surface and they have a nice fragrance.
