on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are highly toxic chemicals that threaten humans and the environment around the world. POPs chemicals travel via wind and water, enter the food chain and can cause serious health and environmental problems. The
Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) which came into force in February 2004 aims to rid the world of these poisons. The treaty targets an initial list of 12 POPs called the “dirty dozen”. Mauritius signed the United Nations Convention in May 2001 and ratified it in July 2004. >>> Read more
