The Vision of the Government is to make the ICT sector the fifth pillar of the economy and Mauritius a regional ICT hub. Information and Communication Technology is regarded as a tool that will support business processes in this knowledge-based economy where information will flow within and across economic activities, leading to increase in value added at national level. Government approved the elaboration of the NICTSP 2007-2011 on the 10th February 2006 (put link on Cabinet decision of 10th February 2006 here).
The National ICT Strategic Plan (NICTSP) aims at providing the right environment for the harnessing of ICT to generate employment, improve quality of life and create new opportunities for the socio-economic development of Mauritius.
A National Information Security Strategy (Annex 1 of the NICTSP 2007-11) has also been formulated in line with the recommendations of the Geneva Action Plan of the World Summit on Information Society (WISIS). The National Information Security Strategy will provide a common platform for the information security efforts of the Government, businesses, Organisations and individual citizens. The main goal of the NISS is to build trust and security in the use of ICTs.
