Money Lender's Licence
TAX COLLECTED BY THE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL
The Shooting and Fishing Lease Tax Act 1983 as subsequently amended
The Shooting and Fishing Lease Tax Act provides for the levy of tax on State Lands for shooting and fishing.
The tax is payable to the Accountant General on or before 31 July every year.
Tax not paid within the period specified attracts surcharge as follows:
10% where the tax is paid within one month of the due date
in any other case, 20 % plus interest at legal rate on the amount of the tax
Rate of Tax
Rs 235 per hectare per annum; or
Rs 58.75 per hectare per annum for holders of Agricultural Development Certificate
Money Lender’s Licence
Every money lender is required under the Money Lenders Act 1959 to take out a licence annually in his true name in respect of every address at which he carries on his business.
The Licence shall expire on 31 December in the year in which it is granted.
Annual licence fee: Rs 20,000 per annum
Certificate required for a licence
A money lender’s licence shall not be granted except to a person who holds a certificate authorizing the grant of a licence to him.
An application for a certificate shall be made to the Magistrate of the district in which the money lender’s business is to be carried out.
Where a money lender intends to carry to carry on business at more than one address a separate certificate shall be required in respect of each address.
Rate of Interest Chargeable by a money lender

| 1. Any loan witnessed by a notarial deed creating a mortgage | Not exceeding 2 per cent above Lombard Rate |
| 2. Any other loan witnessed by a notarial deed | Not exceeding 4 per cent above Lombard Rate |
| 3. Any loan witnessed by a document under private signature or promissory note | Not exceeding 4 per cent above Lombard Rate |
| 4. Any other loan | Not exceeding 6 per cent above Lombard Rate |
| For the purpose of this schedule, ‘Lombard Rate’ means the Lombard Rate as determined by the Bank of Mauritius |
