Some 30 NGOs are affiliated with the Council. | | The objectives of the Council are: | | | To coordinate the activities of organizations working towards the welfare of children. | | | To identify actions and projects that will promote the welfare of children. | | | To establish contacts with organizations engaged in similar activities in Mauritius and abroad. | | | To promote the welfare of children generally. | A new NCC Act 2003 was passed in Parliament with the aim of making it more dynamic and responsive to the needs of children and to ensure the participation of children. The main aim of the Act is child participation in decision making through the setting up of a National Children's Committee comprising of members elected amongst children's and students clubs and associations registered with the National Children Council. This is in line with the Government commitment to ensure child participation in decision making. Back to Top Creativity Centre at Mahebourg A Creativity Centre at Mahebourg has been made operational since 2000 based on the Indian Bal Bhawan to enable children to participate in a variety of activities of their own choice with a view to promote their social, intellectual, moral and physical activity. The Creativity Centre provides a forum to facilitate self expression either through visual and performing arts or through service and craft based manipulative activities. Special programmes/visits/camps during vacation and weekends are also organized. The Kids And Teens Clubs have been launched to enhance the physical, mental and cultural development of children as well as promote children's participation in recreational, educational and other social activities.
