Chairman and Commissioners |
Commissioners,
headed by a Chairman, together constitute ‘The Competition
Commission’ as established by the Competition Act 2007.
The Commissioners, meeting together, act as the strategic
decision-making body for the Competition Commission as an
institution. They also make the decisions on all investigations
of restrictive practices under the Act, conducting hearings
with the parties concerned and, where necessary, imposing
directions or agreeing undertakings. |
| The Act provides for up to five Commissioners
to be appointed. The position of full-time Chairman is presently
vacant, but the Commission can exercise all of its legal powers
and fulfill its duties with four members, under the acting chairmanship
of the Vice-Chairman. |

The Vice-Chairman of the Competition
Commission presides over meetings of the Commission in the absence
of the Chairman.
Mr. Rajiv Servansingh is presently the Regional Director of
Board of Investments of Mauritius based in Mumbai. The Board
of Investment is the apex agency of the Republic of Mauritius
to promote and facilitate foreign direct investment in Mauritius.
Mr. Servansingh was previously Deputy Secretary General of the
Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry where he participated
in the formulation of trade and development strategy for the
private sector. Mr. Servansingh was also a member of several
Boards including Rosebelle Sugar Estate, Mauritius Industrial
Development Authority as well as member of the council of the
University of Mauritius |
From 1976 - 1982 Mr. Servansingh
was an elected member of parliament in Mauritius.
Mr. Servansingh had a long career in the private sector including
posts as Managing Director of several companies engaged in manufacturing
and exports of garments. From 1992- 1996 he was the General
Manager of SIC Management Services Ltd.
Mr. Servansingh contributes regularly to the debate on National
Economic Development through articles in the press. |

| Mohamed Reshad Sadool - Commissioner |
|
M. Reshad Sadool is a chartered certified accountant
and a licensed auditor. He started his career as accountant
in industry and after a few years moved in public practice working
for one of the big four accountancy firms. During this period
he acquired experience in the audit, consulting and taxation
of listed companies, multinational companies having subsidiaries
in Mauritius and various other large entities.
He then set up his own accountancy firm which is part of an
international accounting network. During his 10 years as a managing
partner of his firm he has been specializing in consultancy
for medium size companies. His various assignments include providing
strategic advice, undertaking tax planning, fraud investigation,
implementation of internal control systems, undertaking share
valuations and advising on mergers, acquisitions and disposals.
He also works for clients operating in the region such as Madagascar
and Comoro Islands. |

| Selvam Poonoosamy - Commissioner |
 |
Following degrees in geography and sociology/social
work, Selvam Poonoosamy worked briefly as a teacher before
moving into HR in the private sector, beginning a career in
senior HR management in the private and public sectors. She
worked as Personnel/Human Resource Manager for Litronix (Mauritius),
a US electronics company employing 1800 people in the Export
Processing Zone in Mauritius.
She has subsequently worked in senior HR positions for a
variety of the leading companies in Mauritius, including Bonair,
Courts and Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile, and also managed
the HR function in the Industrial and Vocational Training
Board. In 2002 she become Productivity/HR executive for Food
and Allied Group, then in 2006 became General Manager of Food
and Allied Group Societe MADCO Formation, a company responsible
for learning and development across the Allied Group of companies. |
| She has acted as a consultant on
vocational and technical training for women in Mauritius, for
the UNDP, and has worked as an independent consultant in HR
management and development to private enterprises in the service/commercial,
tourism and manufacturing sectors. She has been President of
the Association of Personnel Managers, a member of the National
Workers’ Education Committee, of the National Economic
Development Council and of the National Productivity and Competitiveness
Council. She also lectures in Human Resources Management and
Development and TQM at the University of Mauritius. |

| Rodney Rama - Commissioner |

Having gained his LLB (Law) from the London School
of Economics in 1990, Rodney Rama went on to qualify as a Barrister
and was accordingly Called to the Bar in 1991. A brief spell
as a Project Co-ordinator followed before he decided to leave
the UK and take up private practice in Mauritius. He was Called
to the Mauritian Bar in April 1994 and went up to set up his
own Chambers before returning to the UK in 1998.
Thereafter, ensued a stint working for London Underground Ltd
fulfilling various roles in the Operations department. Two years
within the Prosecutions’ Department of the organisation,
was followed by a lengthier spell as a Manager within the Learning
and Development Department, which lasted some four years.
Prior to leaving London Underground, he was appointed to a role
wherein he oversaw the transition of the L&D Administrative
function to the newly operational Transport for London, including
both the physical move as well as the upgrading of staff skills
and knowledge. |
| After returning to Mauritius in 2005,
Rodney Rama recommenced his private practice as a barrister
to the present day. During this time he has been appointed as
a member of the Dental Council of Mauritius and the Mental Health
Commission. |
