| The Competition Commission has published
the results of an exercise it carried out earlier this year,
looking at competition in the provision of car insurance. Contrary
to the allegation – which claimed that insurance companies
were colluding to fix the price of insurance between themselves
– the CCM’s ‘mystery shopping’ exercise
clearly found that insurance companies’ quotes for insurance
for the same car differed substantially. The CCM therefore decided
not to investigate this allegation further, and is publishing
these results to encourage customers to make competition work
for them effectively, by shopping around to get the best deal.
