Second Dutch Security firm hacked, unsecured phpMyAdmin implicated

It has been reported that another Dutch security company, Gemnet , has been compromised, as stated on the website of Naked Security Sophos . The firm Gemnet was providing security consulting and authentication technologies to several parts of the Dutch government including the Ministry of Security and Justice, Bank of Dutch, municipalities and the Police. The attack was conducted by exploiting a publicly accessible instance of phpMyAdmin without a password. During the hack, the attackers were able to gain access to the system and information by manipulating the databases. According to the Dutch news site webwereld , the hackers have accessed non-public documents which outlined the secure communication networks and procedures for communication between the parent company, KPN and governments as well as customers. Gemnet CSP, KPN's certificate authority division, has shut down its website as they are investigating the incident.
