The hacktivist group, Anonymous, has claimed the release of 38,000 emails related to the Feds' cybercrime investigations, in retaliation to the harsh penalties given to its members, as stated on the website of InformationWeek . The information that was released include sensitive information related to government groups, law enforcement agency employees and the details of forensics methodologies used in the prosecution of computer crimes. According to Anonymous, the group is not committing any ‘crime' but classifies its activities as ‘electronic civil disobedience'. In a statement, Anonymous has said that the released information could be useful to those who want to protect themselves from the methodologies adopted by cybercrime investigators to build cases. The stolen information was released via Tor and BitTorrent.
