Apple Laptop Battery Interface Lets Local Users Deny Service

A vulnerability has been identified in the battery interface used in Apple laptop models which can be exploited by a local user to cause denial of service conditions. The issue is that the battery microcontroller interface uses common API Keys and a local user who has knowledge of the keys, can control the microcontroller functions. This vulnerability can be exploited to prevent the battery from being charged, interfere with battery heat regulation or even cause the battery to stop functioning.
