Facebook has introduced another feature – a new ‘TimeLine' and is planning to roll out to users in the coming weeks. TimeLine will be based on a re-design of old profiles and presented as a summary of important past events in a one-page display. According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckberg, Timeline is “the story of your life” since it will enable Facebook users to get more access to their information than ever before, for example, they can find old photographs, trace their history and other related details which were already uploaded on Facebook. However, it raises several security concerns.
A Sophos security researcher stated that Timeline will make it easier for criminals to collect personal information on people and use it to conduct malicious attacks and steal passwords. He further added that the information is already on Facebook but it is not in “an easy-to-use-format” and since cybercriminals often find out personal details from social networking sites to carry out targeted attacks, Timeline will facilitate their tasks.
