Several popular websites including ‘The Register', ‘The Daily Telegraph', UPS and others have been victim to a DNS hack that has led visitors being redirected to third-party webpages, as stated on the website of ‘Naked Security- Sophos' . Other affected websites comprise of National Geographic, BetFair, Vodafone and Acer.
It must be noted that the websites have not been hacked but the hackers have been able to modify the DNS records for the affected sites. For example, when a user has entered theregister.co.uk in his browser, he was taken to another website, shown in image 1:
