Cyber security experts have warned that the world is facing a wave of cybercrime and the cause is the addiction to smartphones. The issue is that smartphones are too useful and user friendly. According to UK cyber security expert, Henry Harrison, “it is a fully fledged computer that is sitting in your pocket”. Smartphones can collect emails and store sensitive information such as bank account details. Nowadays, people make use of their smartphones to connect on social networking sites. Cyber criminals use Wi-Fi connection to gather passwords and other sensitive data from smartphones. Many smartphones are set up automatically to leap on to available Wi-Fi hotspots and start downloading emails. Security experts have predicted that smartphones are becoming the gateway for cyber criminals and cyber spies into personal data, industrial and state secrets.
