It has been reported that a hacking group known as “Lords of Dharmaraja” has gained access to some of the security product's source code of Symantec, the makers of Norton AntiVirus, as stated on the website of ‘ Naked Security Sophos' . The group of hackers has threatened to reveal the source code on the internet. According to senior technology consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley, there have been two claims related to Symantec's source code. The first document claims to be confidential information associated with Norton AntiVirus's source code that was posted on Pastebin . After investigation, Symantec has stated that it was a documentation dated from April 1999 related to an application programming interface used by the product, instead of a source code. Secondly, the group of hackers shared the source code associated with 2006 version of Symantec's Norton Antivirus with journalists of Infosec Island.
Symantec has confirmed that a segment of its source code has been accessed. Cris Paden, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications at Symantec has stated that “the network of Symantec was not breached, but rather that of a third party entity” . He further added that they are still gathering more information and they have no idea whether the code disclosure affects the functionality or security of Symantec's solutions.
