Military Contractor warns of new Adobe Reader exploit

 

A vulnerability has been reported in the latest versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat applications and is being exploited by remote attackers to hijack computers running on Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability corrupts memory involved with the Universal 3D file format was reported by members of Lockheed Martin's computer incident response team and the Defense Security Information Exchange which monitor the security threats affecting organisations and military contractors. Cyber criminals are making use of malicious PDF documents which are attached to email messages and try to trick users to open the document. In doing so, a malicious code is executed that infect user's machine with malware. According to Brad Arkin, the Senior Director of product and security at Adobe, a security sandbox built into Reader X prevented the execution of malicious codes and versions written for non-windows systems are not being targeted.
