Home | Safer Internet Day 2011

The Safer Internet Day is organised by INSAFE each year in February to promote safer and responsible use of online technologies and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world. To observe the forthcoming Safer Internet Day, the National Computer Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and IT Security Unit, is organising a workshop on “Children and Online Risks” on 8th of February 2011 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium, Moka.

The main objective of the Safer Internet Day is to raise awareness about safe and responsible use of new technologies among children and young people. The theme for this year’s Safer Internet Day is "It’s more than a game, it's your life". This theme encompasses online gaming – from simple games to MMOGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) – and social networking, i.e. the two online activities most popular worldwide.

The target audience for the workshop is secondary school teachers and students from the state and private secondary schools.

The details of the activities for the Safer Internet Day are as follows:

  • Half day Workshop on the theme “It’s more than a game, it's your life”
  • Organise awareness sessions in schools on Internet Safety for children with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and IT Security Unit during the month of February and March 2011.
  • Awareness sessions on Internet Safety for parents and youngsters through the NCB Cyber caravans during the month of February 2011.
  • Dissemination of a brochure and fact sheets on Virtual life and online gaming in schools and community centres.
  • Organisation of an online quiz on ‘Online Gaming’ during the workshop on 8th February 2011.
  • Clock face on MBC TV before Peak hour during the second week of February 2011.
