What are the services available?

Screening: in all the 26 Area Health Centres in Mauritius, one session every week on appointment is organized specially for screening for diabetes. During these sessions the following tests are done;

BMI (Body mass Index)

Blood pressure

Blood sugar

Caravane de la Sante: Screening services are also offered by the Caravane de la Sante which goes to the workplace and into the community. This service has been extended to tertiary education institutions in 2006 and will be extended to secondary schools in 2007.

Treatment:

Treatment of diabetes is available in all the Community Health Centres, Area Health Cemtres and Regional Hospitals.

Treatment of complications is done in the regional Hospitals and in specialized hospitals such as the Subramanya Bharati Eye Hospital and the Cardiac Centre.

Each regional hospital has a renal dialysis unit which is under the care of the medical unit and it caters for all the patients needing haemodialysis of th region.
