The need for Anti-corruption Values in the Secondary School Curriculum
“There is an urgent need for the concerned authorities to adopt an educational policy on anti-corruption education in the Mauritian Educational system.” This is one of the main recommendations of a study entitled: ‘A Study of the Secondary Educational System in Promoting Knowledge and Awareness of Anti-corruption Values.’ This research work was commissioned by the ICAC after the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Commission and the Mauritius Research Council. The research was conducted by the Centre for Applied Social Research of the MRC.
The report underlines that the authorities need to formalize the curriculum provision for anti-corruption education to ensure that it cuts across secondary education irrespective of school type. In its main recommendations, the report pinpoints the “pressing need to define concretely how this will be implemented in the curriculum of specific subjects”.
In this context, discussions have been initiated with the Ministry of Education & HR with a view to exploring the appropriate strategy towards the integration anti-corruption elements in the secondary school curriculum.
