Mauritius is coming with various initiatives to support the growth of the sector, such as setting up infrastructure parks, increasing the pool of talents by making ICT as a preferred career choice, and developing policies to build an investor-friendly environment. Government is also enabling an ICT-ready environment through the increase usage and adoption of ICT by inculcating a ‘technology temper’ among the citizens. The government has set the following targets to be achieved by 2011.

• A 7% contribution of the GDP
• 29,000 jobs to be created in the ICT sector
• Employment of at least 90% of those graduated in ICT
• Doubling the number of foreign investors in the ICT sector in Mauritius

The ICT Sector has been contributing a 6.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2010 and it has been projected that the sector will contribute to around 7% of the GDP by 2011

The IT Services together with the Business Process Outsourcing (IT/BPO) has become a key factor for the economic growth of Mauritius.

The IT/BPO industry currently employs around 15,000 people. Some 400 companies are operating in this industry, where more than 20% of them are housed at Ebene Cybercity, a state of art cyber park.

The ICT Development Index (IDI) for Mauritius has improved from 3.43 in 2008 to 4.00 in 2010. This was a direct effect as a result of improvements of ICT infrastructure and access.
