The ICT Development Index (IDI) is a composite index combining 11 indicators into one benchmark measure that serves to monitor and compare developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across various countries. The main objectives of the IDI are to measure:

The 11 indicators are categorized into 3 sets of sub-indices namely:
1. ICT Access – reflecting the level of networked infrastructure and access to ICTs
2. ICT Use – reflecting the level of use of ICTs in the society
3. ICT skills – reflecting the ICT capability and skills required to use ICT effectively |

2. Networked Readiness Index 2013

The NRI is published by the World Economic Forum under the Global Information Technology Report which is issued on a yearly basis. The latest 2013 edition, the twelfth in the series, features the latest results of the NRI, offering a snapshot of the state of networked readiness in the world. This year’s Global Information Technology Report, focusing on ICTs for growth and jobs, places a spotlight on the role that technology can have in economic growth and creation of high-quality jobs. It also shows how high-speed broadband networks have demonstrated a positive impact on short- and long-term employment.
The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) measures the propensity for countries to exploit the opportunities offered by information and communications technology. The NRI seeks to better comprehend the impact of ICT on the competitiveness of nations. The table below benchmarks Mauritius with some developed and developing countries for the period 2011 to 2013

The NRI 2013 which covers 144 countries shows that countries which top the list are exclusively advanced economies. That group is dominated by the Nordics, with Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark featuring in the top 10. Finland has improved its score and rank and is now leading the NRI rankings. It is to note that several countries have improved on their scores with a noticeable progress made by Kazakhstan and Panama. Second to Finland, Singapore leads the group of the Asian Tigers, ahead of Taiwan (China) (10th) which managed to be in the top ten in 2013. Korea Rep. (11th) has been standing at the doorway of the top 10 for both 2012 and 2013.
In 2013, Mauritius improved its NRI score to 4.12 compared to 4.06 in 2012. With such a score Mauritius is not only first in the sub-Saharan Africa in 2013 but for the whole of Africa, followed by South Africa (70th rank) and Seychelles (79th rank). However, such an improvement did not help to progress on its ranking but instead has lost 2 ranks, from 53rd place in 2012, the country is now ranked 55th in 2013.

The Global Services Location Index ranks the top 50 countries in the most attractive offshoring destinations. The latest report published by A.T Kearney in 2011 has placed Mauritius in the 36th position with a score of 4.98.
Although Mauritius has regressed by 1.2 percent in the score from 2009 to 2011 (a lost 11 ranks), the country is still the lowest-cost emerging destinations in the sub-Saharan region.
