workshop
A first workshop on Capacity Development for Clean Development
Mechanism (CD4CDM), organised by the Ministry of Environment &
National Development Unit with the assistance of UNEP’s UNEP
RISOE Centre (URC), was held on 23-24 January 2008 at Swami
Vivekananda International Convention Centre, Pailles, Mauritius.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
·
give an overall introduction to the CDM concept and benefits, as
well as generate support from local institutions for
participating in the CDM;
·
identify a national portfolio of CDM projects; and
·
design Sustainable Development Criteria against which CDM
projects would be assessed prior towards getting approval from
the Designated National Authority.

A second workshop is scheduled for 26-27 March 2008 at the same
venue, the objectives of which are as follows:
·
To develop Project Idea Notes (PINs) and Project Design
Documents (PDDs) and understand baseline methodologies relevant
to the local context;
·
To understand the validation process and CDM project financing;
and
·
To understand the global carbon market.
A sectoral workshop, focussed on Energy Efficiency projects,
will also be held on 28 March 2008. This workshop will aim to:
·
Create awareness at the top management level on the CDM process
and on the benefits of CDM;
·
Provide examples to participants on the types of CDM energy
efficient projects that are presently in the pipeline;
·
Provide baseline methodologies and monitoring methodologies for
energy efficiency projects; and
·
Identify and develop potential energy efficiency projects in
Mauritius.
