30th September 2005 - Soft Launch of digital terrestrial television

Digital Terrestrial Television was soft launched on the 30th of September 2005 by the Director General of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation. A single multiplex, operated by the MBC offering six free to air television channels and four radios, is being broadcast from the following transmitter sites: Malherbes and Signal Mountain. It is planned that the coverage of digital television will be extended to the whole island in 2006.
